This is part 1 of a 2-part workshop series, though it can be taken alone. Students will learn foundational belly dance movements and explore how they can be woven together into a fun combo. Class begins with a brief warmup and conditioning targeted to belly dancing, and includes posture, mechanics, culture, and musicality. The movements will be drilled for progress, with an upbeat soundtrack featuring artists from the SWANA region. Movement modifications can be made so everyone can be safely challenged. “Yalla, let’s go!”
Workshop 2 — Belly Dance Fundamentals: Choreography
This is part 2 of the series, but it can also be taken alone. Students will do an upbeat warmup and conditioning session targeted to belly dance, followed by a brief review of basic technique. Then they’ll learn choreography to part of a well-known Arabic pop song. The choreography includes fun new moves, plus discussion of musicality and culture. Movement modifications can be made so everyone can be safely challenged. “Yalla, let’s go!”
